Adult Leadership Conference
One of the missions for GS-West is to provide our volunteer leaders with information and resources to help them serve girls. For a couple of years, the council has hosted an Adult Leadership Conference - a 2-day event where volunteers gather for information and fun. This year's conference was held Aug. 22-23 in Oklahoma City. Keep watching for 2009 conference information.
Girl Awards
Gold Award
One of the most important events on the GS-West calendar, the Gold Award Ceremony honors those Girl Scouts who have reached this prestigious level of scouting. It is the highest honor a girl can earn in Girl Scouts - and one that sets the foundation for a lifetime of community service and activism. This ceremony recognizes each Gold Award recipient with a pinning. In addition, the council recognizes those girls who have earned Bronze and Silver Awards - the first two steps in earning a Gold Award.
The Gold Award Ceremony is held every spring. In 2008, we had 10 Girl Scouts reach the Gold Award level. In 2009, we would like to see that number increased, so if you know a girl age 14-17 who would like to earn a Gold Award, please work with her now to make sure she reaches all the milestones necessary to receive the award next spring.

Gold Award
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award that a Girl Scout 14-17 may earn. Someone once described the Girl Scout Gold Award as being "what you really want to be remembered for" in Girl Scouting. For many, the leadership skills, organizational skills, and sense of community and commitment that come from "going for the Gold" set the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship. Silver Award
The Girl Scout Silver Award represents a girl's accomplishments in Girl Scouting and her community as she grows and works to improve her life and the lives of others. The first four requirements of the Girl Scout Silver Award help girls build skills, explore careers, gain leadership skills, and make a commitment to self-improvement. The Girl Scout Silver Award Project can be undertaken when the first four requirements are completed. It can be done as an individual or with a group. If done with a group, a girl must be responsible for a specific part of the project and evaluate her contribution to the project and the group. Girls 11-14 are eligible. Click here for our Silver Award Form.
Bronze Award
The Girl Scout Bronze Award, the highest honor a Junior Girl Scout can earn, requires her to learn the leadership and planning skills necessary to follow through on a project that makes a positive impact on her community. Working towards this award demonstrates her commitment to helping others, improving her community and the world, and becoming the best she can be. Click here for our Bronze Award Form.
Annual Meeting & Awards Ceremony
Each year, Girl Scouts-Western Oklahoma membership will gather for an annual meeting. This is a requirement as part of our charter with Girl Scouts USA. This year, the Annual Meeting will be held on Nov. 22 at the Moore Norman Technology Center-South Penn Campus. This will be the first year for a GS-West Annual Meeting, so keep watching this space for details and delegate information.

Leaders of Tomorrow
The purpose of Leaders of Tomorrow is to help girls find out who they are becoming, how they belong, what they believe, and how they are building the world around them. Leaders of Tomorrow is a safe place for girls to participate in many different kinds of activities, gain new experiences, take healthy risks, or just be with other girls. Leaders of Tomorrow is for all girls ages 11-17 in GS-West. For regular updates on events and activities with LOT, click here and select "Scouting Programs" on the left margin.

Volunteer's Day Out
As our way of saying "thank you" to all of our volunteers, GS-West hosts a Volunteer's Day Out during the holiday season. During this day, volunteers may drop off their own children to the event location. For this fun day, GS-West staff donates their time for this day - providing a variety of programs and activities such as crafts, movies, games and even lunch. It's the perfect time for busy moms to take a break and enjoy a day of holiday shopping or just relaxing. This year, Volunteer's Day Out will be on Dec. 22. Keep watching for location and other information.
Cookie Rally
One of the most fun events we do each year is the Cookie Rally! This really kicks off the cookie season in a big way - with lots of activities that help teach each girl about how to sell cookies, what kind of incentives they can earn, and a lot more. Our next Cookie Rally will be Jan. 17, 2009, at Crossroads Mall in Oklahoma City. We are gearing up for our first Cookie Box Creations contest! Cookie Box Creations is a unique event which challenges area architects, engineers and designers to help teams of select Girl Scouts to turn empty Girl Scout Cookie Boxes into freestanding structures all based on the cookie theme for the year.
