Chief Financial Officer

Salary Range: $65,000 - $80,000 per year
(paid bi-weekly) plus benefits

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) works closely with the chief executive officer, the board of directors and senior management team to develop and implement council financial strategies to assure organizational sustainability. In partnership with the CEO, treasurer, finance committee chair, audit committee chair, HR committee chair, the CFO provides overall financial & human resource leadership and direction to the council, and is also responsible for providing effective stewardship, control, and oversight of the corporation’s finances. The CFO leads the human resources
functions, accounting functions and financial statement preparation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, industry practices,
and tax-exempt regulations, and is in charge of the organization's related planning, execution, and evaluation, through the oversight and supervision of the Finance staff. The CFO’s responsibilities include supervising and interacting with the Human Resources contractor and/or council HR staff.
 Non-profit accounting experience is essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Collaborates with the CEO in advising the council’s board of directors and related board committees with regard to all matters pertaining to finance policy, to best ensure that financial strategies, decisions, and functions effectively work toward the achievement of council goals. Contributes to overall council effectiveness by providing critical staff support to committees and task forces established by the council’s board of directors, particularly the finance committee and audit committee.
  • Functions as a member of the senior leadership team; may provide direction, guidance, and/or supervision to cross-functional teams. Meets regularly as a part of the Senior Leadership Team (C-Level).
  • Manages the council’s relationship with the local financial and HR community, including local financial institutions.
  • In cooperation with the CEO, leads the process for preparation of the general operating, capital, and all other necessary budgets for presentation to the council’s board of directors for approval; monitors performance of approved budgets.
  • Develops and maintains effective, easily understood tools and systems to provide critical financial information to the CEO, CDO, COO and Directors including cash flow analysis, forecasting and projected revenues. Provides
    counsel to the CEO and board in the formulation of overall fiscal policies and plans regarding both short- and long-term financial matters related to the council.
  • Provides timely, accurate, and easily understood analyses of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends, to best assist the CEO and senior leadership team in decision-making and goal execution; maintains similar responsibility with respect to reporting of special funds arising from gifts, grants, investments, and other allocations.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

Directs staff in providing and implementing finance and accounting activities.  Work with other departments to ensure cross-collaborative planning, processes and procedures. Provides regular performance reviews with direct reports. Provide leadership, direction and coaching as needed.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant course of study, or equivalent experience; graduate degree a plus, but not required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of directly relevant work experience at least 5 of those years in a nonprofit organization, demonstrating progressively increasing responsibility and accountability, as well as overall functional success.
  • Must have fund accounting experience and be knowledgeable of grant reporting and donor recognition and oversight of donated dollars. Must have some experience in HR, including benefits management and payroll.
  • Demonstrated leadership, collaborative, management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of having worked as a true business partner to a chief executive officer, including a proven willingness to think and act strategically as well as tactically.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the Office of Management and Budget Circular A133 audit, UPMIFA and FASB.
  • Past experience of partnering with HR, IT, property, and other departments, as functionally necessary, as well as supervising finance and/or accounting staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate a genuine passion for the Girl Scout mission and vision.
  • Proven capability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

· CPA is preferred;

· SHRM certification is a plus.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

· Demonstrated reasoning ability, in order to successfully lead and/or manage responsibilities as described above.

· Demonstrated evidence of having successfully interpreted all financial components of a strategic vision into a highly functional operational model.

· Proven capability to work in a collaborative, service-focused environment.

· Demonstrate strong analytical skills, as well as problem-solving and conflict management capabilities.

· A proven, genuine ability and willingness to translate complex financial reporting into easily understood material, and to communicate it on request.

· A demonstrably clear understanding of her/his accountability in carrying out duties with a high degree of confidentiality.

· Impeccable math skills, in order to successfully lead and/or manage responsibilities described above, as well as combined budgets of over $5 million. Must understand and be able to use forecasting tools and methods.

· Organized and detailed-orientated with a proven ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines.

· Self-Starter, capable of adapting to any work environment

· Strong interpersonal skills and team player

· Excellent, effective English language abilities, both oral and written.

 

COMPUTER EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS


§  Computer literate with word processing and excel skills (i.e. Microsoft Office systems); highly functional experience with Sag-MIP preferred; ability to navigate and use Personify, Donor Perfect, RMS or similar database products.

SELECTIVE ABILITIES & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The incumbent must be able to perform the following qualifications in order to be offered and/or maintain employment
in this position.

· Level 1 - Sedentary Work (use of light force to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects), not substantially exposed to adverse environment conditions, work occasional weekends and evenings/nights.

· This position requires the ability remain stationaryand to use computer monitor, keyboard and mouse for extended periods of time

· Must be able to speak and communicate clearly, such as in public speaking engagements.
