Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma- GirlsTechConnect Project

The Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma was a Dell YouthConnect recipient.  Thanks to a donation of $20,000 in cash (and product) we were able to create the Girls TechConnect Project.

Fifty girls in high school in urban Oklahoma City connected globally with guidance of Dell Employee mentors.  The project provided opportunities for interactive problem solving for common issues arising from technology, i.e. social media etiquette, use of technology for higher education access, use of technology for positive social change.   Teen groups collaborated to use technology to impact their peers and the community at large.  Projects are presented online.

This project was important to Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma because of the importance of Dell as an industry leader in technology is vital to our project. The Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma leveraged our expertise in providing outreach girl leadership programs with the use of Dell products and Dell employee service and knowledge.  At each level of engagement the use of Dell products and Dell volunteers built positive outcomes from 50 girls to 200 girls to the possibility of over 12,000 girls within our 39 county service area in Western Oklahoma. We believe that the project’s outcome was greater than the resulting webinars and websites, it was the engagement of Dell employees with an Oklahoma community in great need of the benefits of a global connection.

This project was supported by the Dell YouthConnect pilot program at Emerson High School to partner with the Girls Scouts and provide Dell technology as a resource in solving community problems. Click Here to see the final powerpoint.

Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma Partners with Dell

Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma partnered with Dell in October 2010 to connect, equip and educate our at-risk Girl Scout community with technology solutions. This included preparing a technology area at Council for girl use and providing education and training on the use of technology and STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Math) subjects within all Council activities.

Project goals include:

1) Increasing access for girls to the Virtal Pathway:
