Juliette Low Leadership Society

Discover, connect and take action - Girl Scouts encourages girls to reach for their highest potential. In 1912, Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts, took a bold move by telling the world girls can do more. She sold her pearls to support this movement and today, there are more than 4 million Girl Scouts in the United States. Through the Juliette Low Leadership Society, we are working to reach every girl in western Oklahoma and help them to become leaders of courage, confidence and character! This group shares the message of the positive influence that Girl Scouts makes in the life of a girl, while garnering financial support for enhanced opportunities for our girls.

Metro JLLS 2014 Luncheon

This year’s luncheon, chaired by Cindy Batt, Ann Cameron and Katie Price, will honor our feature guest speaker, journalist and author best known for hosting Good Morning America for nearly two decades, Joan Lunden.

Joan Lunden launched her career in journalism in 1975, reporting for Eyewitness News in New York before joining Good Morning America a year later as a feature news and consumer reporter. Joan’s popularity with viewers led to her promotion as co-host with David Hartman. During her time as host of GMA, Joan was named “television’s favorite morning anchor” and interviewed prominent figures such as US Presidents and First Ladies Gerald and Betty Ford, Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter, Ronald and Nancy Reagan, George and Barbara Bush, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Texas Governor George and Laura Bush prior to the 2000 presidential election.

Joan retired from GMA in 1997 and later became host of A&E’s Behind Closed Doors, an on-location, undercover reporter program. Throughout her career, Joan was dedicated to family and civic responsibility, including speaking on behalf of Mothers Against Drunk Driving; advocating for Passport MD, an online personal health record system; and supporting Camp Reveille, a summer weekend getaway for women of all ages. Joan has also authored nine books and been recognized for her tireless work in broadcast and journalism. We are excited to welcome her into our JLLS community as featured speaker for the 2014 luncheon.

Festivities will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.  Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma invites you to be a part of the celebration as we continue to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.  Join us as we share the importance of Girl Scouting  in the community and thank generous donors like you!

Oklahoma JLLS Chapters

Founded in 2005, the Oklahoma City (Metro Area) Juliette Low Leadership Society is making a significant difference in Girl Scouts' ability to reach more girls.  The society has raised over $1.8 million since 2005 to support girls and has over 250 members each year.

For a community of just 30,000, the Juliette Low Leadership Society in Enid has made a huge impact on Girl Scouts in their community by garnering local financial support. In four years, this group has more than doubled its contributions through the annual luncheon -- raising funds for Girl Scouting programs and opportunities in Enid. Membership for the Enid JLLS is $200 a year.

In 2012, the Ardmore Juliette Low Leadership Society hosted its first luncheon, raising nearly $15,000 to support the Ardmore Girl Scout program. New program opportunities, increased troop activities and support are only a small glimpse at what Ardmore is accomplishing.

The Lawton-Fort Sill Juliette Low is currently forming with a tea this fall to formally announce this opportunity to the community. The annual luncheon is scheduled for April 2013. Thanks to generous support from the community, Lawton-Fort Sill has the fastest growing Girl Scout program in western Oklahoma.
