Recruitment Materials

A few tools to help you in your girl and adult recruitment efforts:

Girl Scout Recruitment Flyer

You are welcome to purchase this flyer from the council at 7 cents per copy. These are customizable flyers so you can put your recruitment event information on the back of the flyer. You can also print your own here.

Yard Signs

We now have new yard signs (with stakes) that you can use to help promote recruitment events. These are great for in front of the event location, as well as in your yard throughout the year! Come by the council office at 6100 N. Robinson, OKC, to pick up your free yard signs.

Girl Scout University

One of the missions for GS-West is to provide our volunteers/mentors with information and resources to help them serve girls and grow personally and professionally. We do this through educational opportunities held throughout the year. Girl Scout University, a large educational event held in OKC twice each year in early June and again in late September or early October, offer opportunities for volunteers/mentors to learn new things about Girl Scouts, child development, pathway opportunities, and so much more. Additional local educational opportunities are offered in early November and late January. Local opportunities offer basic courses for new volunteers and refreshers for seasoned volunteers.

Volunteers/mentors are required to complete the following courses within the first 90 days of being approved as a girl scout volunteer or to recertify every two years, whichever applies:

1.) Girl Scout Essentials – 3 hour classroom course
A face to face course offered by GSWest staff who will guide you through the many challenges a girl faces as well as issues facing you as a volunteer/mentor throughout the 39 counties in our council. Spend time getting to know others on your same journey and enjoy resources to help carry the load.

2.)     Pathway Course – 1 hour classroom course
It’s up to you…you get to choose the pathway of your interest. Be it troop/group, events, camp, series, travel or virtual, your options are endless for ways to be involved in scouting. Choose the pathway course that relates to the area you have chosen to volunteer/mentor and receive useful information to set you on a successful journey with girls.

3.)     Journeys age level – 1 hour classroom course; choose the age level(s) that apply to your group.
A key part of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience is the leadership journey, a coordinated series of activities grouped around a theme. Each journey is tied to some of Girl Scouts' 15 national outcomes for girls, as defined in the Girl Scout Leadership Model. This course will offer interactive discussions and hands on activities designed to assist you with customizing journeys to create a fun and exciting experience for girls. You’ll find new ideas about using activities, starting discussions and earning awards so that the this feels like one big adventure as you assist girls in making it their own.

4.)     CPR Course – 4 hours classroom course
This classroom course designed to instructs lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults and children. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for CPR-Adult/Child which is valid for two years.

5.)     1st Aid Course – 4 hours classroom course
