Badge Discovery Kit!
Dive into the culture, history, and heritage of Black
communities with our Black History Month Badge Discovery Kit. This kit
engages Girl Scouts in learning about the rich contributions,
legacies, and ongoing journey of Black history, celebrating unity,
strength, and resilience. Through hands-on activities, girls will
explore important historical figures, cultural traditions, and the
significance of Black History Month, including Black history in
Oklahoma.
What's Included:
Your troop will receive step-by-step instructions, educational
resources, and all the materials needed to engage with Black history
through creative, hands-on activities. This kit includes:
- A Black History Month Scavenger Hunt, which can be done in your area, encouraging girls to explore and learn about local Black history.
- Activities focusing on Black history in Oklahoma, highlighting influential figures and moments in the state's history.
- Age-appropriate activities for every Girl Scout level, ensuring meaningful participation for all.
- Craft supplies to make art projects, including items for creating crafts that honor Black culture, historical figures, and achievements.
- A Black History Month Multicultural Patch that girls will earn upon completing the activities.
The kit is perfect for troop meetings or as a special project that
fits your troop's schedule. With this kit, girls will develop a deeper
understanding of Black history while celebrating its cultural and
historical significance.
A Special Opportunity Awaits!
This kit pairs perfectly with HBCU Night at the Thunder game on
February 1st, where girls can participate in a Black History Month
activity during the game. Check out the "Adventures and
Kits" page on our website to purchase discounted tickets to the
game and to participate in the fun!
Program Completion:
Upon completing the activities, your Girl Scouts will earn the
Black History Month Multicultural Patch, symbolizing their journey in
learning about Black history, culture, and the importance of honoring
the contributions of Black people throughout history.
Registration and Availability
Registration for the Black History Month Badge Discovery Kit
opens on January 20, 2025. Kits will be available for pick-up or
shipment starting January 28, 2025, at 4 PM and every two weeks after
that.
Kit Options:
- Metro Troops (within 25 miles of Council at 6100 N Robinson Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73118) are highly encouraged, but not required, to opt to pick up their kits at the Council office. Each girl's kit will be organized into a larger troop box and ready for pick-up at the 2nd-floor pick-up area.
- Non-Metro Troops will receive individual mailers for each girl delivered to the address provided at registration.
Important Shipping Details:
If you select the shipping option, be sure your address is
current in our system when registering. Double-check your address with
Customer Care at GSWESTOK to confirm accuracy. You will also receive
an email from tkemp@gswestok.org to verify the shipping address.
Accurate address information is crucial for delivery, and we'll work
to ensure everything is correct.
Registration is open
until January 28, 2026!
The first kits will be ready for pick-up or shipping on January
28, 2025, and will continue every two weeks from that point
forward.
If you register less than three days before a
pick-up/ship date, your kit will be available for the following
pick-up/ship date, not the one three days away.

If you'd like to pay for a Badge Discovery Kit with troop
funds, please select the sponsorship option under the main menu (3
bars on the top left of your screen) in your registration profile.
Group preorder is not necessary. You can find instructions in the
"For Troop Leaders" section of the Document
Center to purchase with troop funds today!
