Every girl deserves the chance to explore the fascinating world of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics). We’ve designed activities and experiences for girls so they can discover what they care about and decide how they will change the world.
Girls are natural scientists—they push boundaries, test limits, and look at the world around them with inquisitive eyes.
The Girl Scout Leadership Experience engages girls through the three Girl Scout processes - girl led, learning by doing, and cooperative learning.
STEAM experiences are framed within the context of leadership: as girls participate in Girl Scouting, they develop leadership skills to make the world a better place. Research shows girls are more interested in STEAM careers when they know how their work can help others.

Description: This kit focuses on the art of perspective through projects and resources adapted from the Nature Conservancy, the World Wildlife Federation, and Okies For Monarchs. Activities will require the girls to be exposed to an outdoor setting with both small and large objects present, such as a park, playground, or nature trail. Brownies will need to use binoculars, and are challenged either to dance or sing like an animal. Girl Scouts can collect their own fallen leaves and pinecones, but you may source these ahead of time for them.

Activities will require the girls to be exposed to an outdoor setting with both living plants and animals to observe, such as a park, playground, or nature trail. Girl Scouts are required to “be a nature photographer” for this badge; see if they can each borrow a camera or camera phone from an adult ahead of time.They are also challenged to build a seed ball, but may choose to wait for a better season to plant it.

Program Level: Cadets

Description: This kit focuses on the wisdom of wildlife through resources adapted from the Nature Conservancy, the World Wildlife Federation, and Project Learning Tree. Please use the handsaw ahead of time if possible to cut a log that is about 3-6” in diameter and 3-4 feet long. Or, prepare to complete the alternate activity requiring use of hot glue guns. Troop leaders will also need to collect one empty container for each girl (cardboard oat canister, tin coffee can, etc.) before using this kit. Each section in this program includes advanced optional activities called “Inspiration Activities” which should serve to challenge older Cadettes, and prepare her for the kinds of important topics she will be challenged with as a Senior and Ambassador Girl Scout.

Description: This kit focuses on certain natural
phenomena. Seniors should have access to the PDF version of this
program in order to view certain creative content, play with a
simulation, and watch a video in preparation to design a Crew Module.
Girl Scouts are required to “be a nature photographer” for this
badge; see if they can each borrow a camera or camera phone
ahead of time if they don’t already have one.Each member
needs to buy their own canvas ahead of time and prime the
canvas 24 hours before painting, by painting the canvas
with the gesso canvas primer and sponge brushes included in the kit.
Girls are also challenged to plant native wildflower seeds included in

Description: This kit focuses on the appreciation of the importance of “bugs” in nature, including their ability to solve problems artistically. The program challenges Brownies to consider things from a bug’s perspective. Girl scouts will require access to an outdoor area where bugs can be observed with supervision. The kit includes two books about bugs: one for younger Brownies, and one for older Brownies. An optional troop leader challenge is included: The PDF includes digital instructions for building a Live Earthworm Observatory ahead of time, if they wish to do so.

Description: This kit includes an optional activity to make tree cookies (a cross-section from a tree trunk.) This kit focuses on the role of trees in ecosystems and certain conservation efforts in Oklahoma. Emphasis is placed on removing invasive tree species, and includes a suggested activity to write to a local government. Troop leaders can explain that ecologists have to be skilled at the art of writing in order to be persuasive. Each section includes advanced optional activities called “Inspiration Activities” which should serve to challenge older Cadettes, and prepare her for the kinds of important topics she will be challenged with as a Senior and Ambassador. You may also want to access the digital version of this program with your troops so that they can play Prairie Protector, a game to help them explore the connection between people and trees.
